Smile Please!

Of course, the sight of a child smiling from ear to ear or belly laughing uncontrollably is amazing. And, in turn, it doesn’t fail to put a smile on our faces. So, to capture that in a photograph is priceless and something I love to do.

But, one of the reasons I became a family photographer and take the types of photos I do, is because I want to capture feelings.

Real emotions.

And, as we all know, children do not smile all the time!

Instead, their faces convey a myriad of feelings in the most real and raw way possible.

They frown, they cry, they look puzzled, they shy away, they wonder, they seek reassurance, they look down, they look up, they stick out their tongue when they concentrate, they look bored, they crinkle their nose, they look disdainful, they look scared, they stare, they look thoughtful…they just are who they are in that moment. And that is just as valuable and important to capture in a photograph as the smile we love.

So, I’ve collated a few of my favourite photographs which have done just that. They are very much part of the galleries I give to my families and I hope they love them as much as I do…
