Things to do on holiday in The Cotswolds | Cheltenham & Cotswolds Family Photographer
Are you planning a visit to The Cotswolds? Are you on holiday near Cheltenham? Want to know the best things to do in Gloucestershire, especially if you’re visiting with kids?
Well, I’ve lived here for over fifteen years and I’ve got three children so I know this area and I know how to keep kids happy and entertained while on holiday here in The Cotswolds!
Sudeley Castle
Sudeley Castle, near Winchcombe, is one of our favourite places to visit as a family because there is something for everyone.
What we love:
The castle gardens are absolutely beautiful and the historic setting is stunning with views around The Cotswolds countryside
The adventure playground will keep the kids occupied for hours - the replica castle, zip-wire, climbing frames and obstacle course provide fun for all ages
The history of the castle is fascinating, including the burial place of one of Henry VIII’s wives
The Rose garden is the perfect setting for a game of Hide & Seek and don’t miss the fish pond and pheasants.
There are often special events and activities during school holidays.
Extra Info:
Plenty of parking
Two cafes & lots of space for a picnic
Keep an eye out for Gifford’s Circus who visit in May - the best Circus in the country!
Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens
The Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, in Burford is such a treat with amazing animals, great playground and even a train ride! It makes the perfect day out for families in The Cotswolds.
What we love:
The animals. The Park has such a range of animals to see and learn about: rhinos, giraffes, lions, penguins, wolves, bats, meerkats - the list goes on!
The train. My boys love a train ride and the little trip around the park is always a highlight. (there is an additional charge for the train)
The playground. The playground has something for all ages but the slides are definitely a favourite
Considering how much there is to see, entry is pretty reasonably priced
Extra Info:
There is a cafe but it’s often very busy so recommend taking a picnic
The park is on the outskirts of Burford which is a beautiful Cotswolds town and well worth a visit too.
Bourton Vale Equestrian Centre
Bourton Vale Equestrian, in Bourton-on-the-Water, continues the animal theme with Pony rides through some beautiful Cotswold villages, including Upper and Lower Slaughter where the ponies even go for a paddle in the stream.
What we love:
It’s a totally unique experience - to be riding a pony through some iconic villages in The Cotswolds is really memorable.
The pony’s were healthy and happy - a perfect first riding experience.
The team are friendly and helpful. They chatted away to our children and really put them at ease.

I am often asked to run a family photo shoot for families who are on holiday or visiting Cheltenham, The Cotswolds or Gloucestershire because they want to remember their time here and to be able to look back at tangible memories of their trip.
The photo session can take place in your holiday home and surrounding area (like this little gallery) or I can recommend a location local to Cheltenham and The Cotswolds which will be perfect for your photo shoot.
Get in touch here and we can chat about making your Cotswolds Photo Shoot happen!
