And it was all yellow...
I recently posted this photograph of my youngest when we were out for a family walk locally in Cheltenham…
As soon as I saw it, I was taken back in time to the early years of my photography career, not here in The Cotswolds, but in America, where we were living at the time. We were vacationing in New England and my oldest (although at the time he was the only one!) was playing on the beach and I took this photo…
Yep, same yellow coat!
I just love it - I’m pretty sure when our youngest has grown out of it, I’ll be packing it away in a box, too attached to give it away. Maybe future generations will wear it and I can photograph them!
But it also got me thinking about colour.
A little pop of colour, like yellow can make all the difference to a photograph, particularly a photo of children. Whether they’re running through the long grass of a Cotswolds meadow or playing on a beach on the other side of the world, the yellow catches the eye and draws you to them.
Now, I’m not suggesting that if you come to a photo-shoot with me, everyone should arrive head to foot in yellow! Far from it - neutral tones are actually best, but you can drop in the occasional pop of colour too.
And having looked back through some of my recent photos, it would seem I’m quite drawn to yellow, in varying shades!
