Family Photographers in the Cotswolds ~ how do you choose the right one for you?

So, you’ve made the decision to invest in some photographs. You open up google and search ‘family photographer in Cheltenham’ or you ask in the local facebook group for a recommended newborn photographer in Gloucestershire and you are met with a mighty long list of options!

One of the great things about where we live in The Cotswolds is that you can have your pick of family photographers, but that can be overwhelming too. How do you choose the right one for you?

Well, I thought I’d help you out by letting you know a little bit more about who I am and what I do so you know if we’d make the perfect match!

I’m the right photographer for you if you want genuine, emotive, heart-felt images…

I want you to look back at your photographs and not only see the people that you love but to also feel that love too.

In a session, I will always get that photo of everyone looking at the camera, the one that the Grandparents will probably want on their mantelpiece, but after that it’s not about putting on a show for the camera, it’s about being yourselves and being together. So, we will do the things that will capture who you are - no stiff, formal posing but lots of games and running around for the kids; lots of laughing and joking; lots of exploring and the quieter moments too. These photos will tell your story and capture the heart of your family.

I’m the right photographer for you if you want someone who will put you at ease and make you feel relaxed…

Not everyone likes having their photo taken. Not everyone feel confident about putting themselves in front of a camera. I get it. We all have our hang-ups, our insecurities, and they can often put us off getting photographs taken. But, I swear, the phrases I hear the most at the end of my photo sessions are: ‘that was so much more fun than I thought it would be’ or ‘I was so nervous about that but I really enjoyed it’.

It’s my job to put you at ease so you can feel comfortable and confident being yourself at our session. So I’m not going to be stressing out at your kids if they don’t want to smile for the camera or demanding that everyone ‘say cheese!’. I’m going to be encouraging you to be yourselves, to do what feels comfortable and I will definitely be telling you when it looks good!

Have a look at some testimonials from previous clients here to get their word for it!

I’m the right photographer for you if you want someone who knows their light…

I’m a natural light photographer which means no studio or artificial lights for me. Instead, I absolutely love working with whatever light is at my disposal - whether it be a stunning sunset in a beautiful Cotswold meadow; a grey dramatic sky as the backdrop to a hillside view of Cheltenham or the pockets of light in your home. Nothing phases me and I love playing with light to enhance the mood and feeling of your photographs.

And when it comes to photographs in your home, I will find the best, most flattering and most interesting light. Don’t worry if you have a smaller home or you think it’s too gloomy - as long as there’s a window, there’s a way!

I’m the right photographer for you if want photographs which are unique and an experience which is personalised to you…

No two families are the same, so no two photo sessions should be the same. Before we even meet at your session, I will get to know you with a questionnaire (nothing too onerous, I promise!) so I can tailor your photo shoot to you. If you tell me your kids like to dance then that’s what we’ll do; if you tell me your teenager is feeling a bit self conscious then I’ll tread lightly; if you tell me your toddler might be a bit strong-willed I’ll say show me a toddler who isn’t! I’ve got 3 young children of my own so there aren’t many situations I haven’t faced!

And during our session, I’ll be looking for those in-between moments to capture. That little hand in yours, that head nuzzled into your neck, that look between you and your partner - those are my favourite moments to capture and the ones which are uniquely yours.

So, if you would like more joy and genuine emotion in your photographs, then just get in touch and we can chat a little bit more to see if I’m the right family photographer for you!
